About

My Full Story

My passion for healthcare security and workplace violence prevention started soon after I began my first job in healthcare.  I was a security investigator at a large urban Level 1 Trauma Center.  It was my first ever exposure to working in healthcare.  The mission of protecting a hospital, vulnerable staff, patients, and visitors every day felt like a calling to me from that day forward.

Since then, I have honed my specialization in healthcare security and violence prevention mitigation and security over more than two decades.  Some of my most notable accomplishments during my time as a healthcare security leader include:

  • The complete transformation of a 125-person security department from contract security to a proprietary police and security team as the Director of Police, Security and Parking at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Brigham Health.

  • The Police & Security Department at Faulkner Hospital winning the prestigious Lindberg Bell Award for establishing and maintaining an outstanding security program.

  • Receiving the IAHSS Philip A. Gaffney Faculty Chair Award for my writings and work towards the furtherance of professionalism in the healthcare security field.

  • Building comprehensive workplace violence prevention and mitigation programs across three different hospitals over fourteen years.

I also love educating and mentoring the next generation of security leaders and professionals.  In fact, I previously had the honor of serving as a long-term Adjunct Professor at the Northeastern University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice where I developed and taught security management courses to undergraduate students.  To say that this was a rewarding experience is an understatement.

As a lifelong learner and someone who values professional development, I have earned and maintained the credentials of a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), and certified Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Specialist.

I’m also a graduate of both the Gavin de Becker & Associates Advanced Threat Assessment and Management Academy and the Wharton/ASIS Security Executive Program.

I have a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI.

For the past decade, I have been a healthcare security and violence prevention consultant.  I’ve helped clients of all sizes improve their security posture and prevent and mitigate violence- from small community-based healthcare organizations to large healthcare enterprises.

I’d love to help you and your organization create a safer, more secure care environment.  Reach out when you’re ready and let’s discuss how we can work together.
